I.Political relations:

On 6 April 1993, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 817, accepted Macedonia as a member of the UN with the temporary name of "the Republic of Macedonia of the former Yugoslavia". China voted for the resolution.

On 12 October, Chinese Government Representative, and Chinese Ambassador to the UN LI Zhaoxing and Macedonian Government Representative, and Macedonian Ambassador to the UN Denko Maleski signed the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Macedonia in New York.

On 18 July 1994, the first Macedonian Ambassador to China Vladimir Petkovski presented the Letter of Credence to Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

On 12 March 1995, on the sidelines of the World Summit Meeting of the UN Social Development in Copenhagen, Premier of the State Council Li Peng met with the Macedonian President Kiro Gligovrov. On 9 May, during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Victory of the Anti-Fascism War in Moscow,Chinese President Jiang Zemin had friendly talks with Macedonian President Kiro Gligovrov.

From 31 May to 4 June, Macedonian Foreign Minister Stevo Crvenkovski visited China. The two sides signed the Agreement between the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on Cultural Cooperation, the Agreement between the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Protocol on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia.

From 13 to 15 April 1996, Vice Premier of the State Council and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen visited Macedonia. On 7 June, the first Chinese Ambassador to Macedonia Xu Yuehe presented the letter of Credence to Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov.

On 23 September, Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen met with Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov on the sidelines of the 51th session of the UN General Assembly.

From 9 to 13 June 1997, Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov paid a state visit to China. Chinese President Jiang Zemin held talks with him. The two leaders signed the Joint communique between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Macedonia, the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Macedonia Concerning the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, the Agreement between the Government of People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for the Avoidance of Double taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to taxes on Income and on Capital and the Executive Program for Cultural Cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia for the Period 1997-1999.

From 10-13 November, Chairman of NPC Foreign Affairs Committee Zhu Liang visited Macedonia.

From 23-30 May 1998, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of Macedonian Parliament Ilinka Mitreva paid a visit to China.

On 27 January 1999, due to the sabotage by the Taiwan authorities, the Macedonian Government declared to establish the so-called "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan Province of China.

The Chinese side lodged times of solemn representations but to no avail. The Chinese Government therefore announced severing diplomatic ties with Macedonia on 9 February.

On 18 June 2001, Macedonian Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva visited China and signed the Joint Communique between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Macedonia on the Normalization of Relations with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, marking the ultimate realization of the normalization of Sino-Macedonia relations. From 18-21 June, Macedonian Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva paid a visit to China.

On 5 September, the new Chinese Ambassador to Macedonia Zhang Wanxue presented the Letter of Credence to Macedonia President Boris Trajkovski. From 13 to 21 November, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of Macedonian Parliament Jordan Boskov paid a visit to China.

On 14 November, on the sidelines of the 56th Session of UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan held bilateral talk with Macedonian Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva.

From 9 to 13 December, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Krstevski paid a visit to China.

On 4 April 2002, the new Macedonian Ambassador to China Georgi Efremov presented the Letter of Credence to President Jiang Zemin. From 25 to 30 April, at the invitation of President Jiang Zemin, Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski paid a visit to China. The two heads of state signed the Joint Statement between the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on Consolidating and Promoting Their Friendly Relations and Cooperation. During the visit, the two sides also signed the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on Cooperation in the Animal Health and Quarantine, the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on Phytosanitary Cooperation, the Agreement of Cooperation in the Fields of Health Medicine between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, the Executive Program for Cultural Cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia for the Period 2002-2004, and the Protocol on Establishing Friendly Cooperation between Dalian and Ohrid. On May 9, Premier Zhu Rongji of the State Council met with the departing and in-coming diplomatic envoys among whom there was the new Macedonian ambassador to China George Efremov. From 22 to 29 June, the Permanent Representative of Macedonia to the UN, Ambassador Srgan Kerim paid a visit to China.

From 7 to 9 July 2003, Vice Foreign Minister Liu Guchang went to Macedonia for bilateral consultation on the level of Vice Foreign Ministers. Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski, Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva and Former President Kiro Gligorov met him respectively and Deputy Foreign Minister Fuad Hasanovic held talks with him.

On 8 October, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Macedonian Embassy in China co-sponsored a reception for the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Macedonia. On 10 October, Chinese Embassy in Macedonia and the Macedonian Association for Friendship with China co-sponsored a reception for the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Macedonia.

From 9 to 17 November, at the Invitation of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, former President of Macedonia Kiro Gligorov paid a visit to China.

From 4 to 9 February 2004, Macedonian Vice Foreign Minister Hasanovic paid a visit to China, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Dai Bingguo and Assistant Minister Li Hui held talks separately with him. On 27 February, Hu Jintao sent telegram of condolences to Parliament Speaker of Macedonia Ljupco Jordanovski on the occasion of Air Crash of President Trajkovski. On 28 Feburary, new Ambassador of Macedonia to China Fatmir Dzeladini presented the Letter of Credengce to President Hu Jintao.

From 28 to 29 August 2006, Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan paid a visit to Macedonia and met with Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and former Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva. The two sides signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

From 16 to 19 July, at the invitation of the Union of Women's Organizations of Macedonia, Secretary of the Secretariate of the All-China Women's Federation Wang Naikun visited Macedonia.

On 5 December 2006, the new Chinese Ambassador to Macedonia Dong Chunfeng presented the Letter of Credence to Macedonia President Branko Crvenkovski.

On 4 April 2007,Chinese ambassador Dong Chunfeng and Minister of Economy of Macedonia Vera Rafajlovska signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

From 17 to 19 July 2007, Foreign Minister of Macedonia Milososki paid a visit to China and met with his counterpart Yang Jiechi.

From 2 to 5 September 2007, Minister of the International Department, Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wang Jiarui paid a visit to Macedonia and met with Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, Social -Democratic Union of Macedonia(SDSM) president Radmila Sekerinska and New Social-Democratic Party(NSDP) president Tito Petkovski.

From 3 to 10 December 2007, The president of the Republic of Macedonia Branko Crvenkovski visited China.

From 14 to 16 September 2008, Vice Premier Minister ZhangDejiang visited MAcedonia.

From 2 to 7 February 2009, NanZhenzhong, member of the standing committee of the mational people's congress of PRC, visited Macedonia.

From 9 to 12 September 2009, Prime Minister of Republic of Macedonia Gruevski participated DALIAN Summer Davos,and met with chinese PM WenJiabao.

On 20 November 2009, Vice foreign minister of Republic of Macedonia Petrov visited China and held bilateral consultation with chinese vice foreign minister ZhangZhijun.

II.Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations and Economic and Technological Cooperation

According to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs of China, the trade volume between China and Macedonia was US$17.92 million, up 72.2 perceng from the previous year. Of the total, China's export was US$17.28 million, and export US$0.64 million, up 68 percent and 326.7 percent respectively from the previous year.

On 29 May, 2003, Macedonian Kegra hydroelectric station constructed by China officially stored water. Macedonian Prime Minister Branka Crvenkovski attended the water storage ceremony.

On 30 August, 2007, Macedonian Customs signed an agreement with the Chinese Nuctech Company Limited over buying 4 specialized mobile scanners to be set up at border crossings. The total price of this trade was 5.5million euro.

On 31 August, 2007, Ministry of Education of Macedonian signed an agreement with the Chinese Hair Company over buying 100,000 computers. The total price of this trade was 24million euro.

From 23rd to 27th May 2007, the Minister--Mrs.Vera Rafajlovska --Of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia official visited China. During her visit, the Minister had meetings with the Deputy Minister-Yu Guangzhou-the Commerce Ministry and the vice President-Zhang Xiqin-- of the National Tourism Administration of P.R.China respectively. Both sides are interested in enhancing the cooperation in the fields of economy and tourism.

On 9 September 2008, Minister of information society Ivo Ivanovski participated the 12th China International Fair For Investment and Trade in Xiamen.

From 30 June to 2 July 2008, vice minister of commerce JiangZengwei visited Macedonia.

From 26 to 30 July 2009,  vice minister of Economy Vaskov and director of investement bureau Mizo visted Shanghai.

From 7 to 12 September 2009, deputy prime minister Peshevski participated the 13th China International Fair For Investment and Trade in Xiamen.

From 21 to 25 November 2009, vice minister of Economy Vaskov signed the contract for Shanghai Expo 2010.

III.Bilateral Exchanges and Cooperation in Other Fields.

On 11 March 1995, China and Macedonia signed the Regulations of the Science and Technology Cooperation Commission of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Macedonia. From 20 to 23 October, a delegation of the Chinese Trade Union visited Macedonia. From 22 November to 1December,Deputy Editor-in-Chief Wang Hua of Sichuan Daily led a Chinese journalist delegation to Macedonia.

From 13 to 15 April 1996, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Chen Haosu visited Macedonia. From 10 to 25 May, President of the Macedonian Journalists Association, Stojan Nasev visited China. From 21 August to 1 September, a Chinese Writers Delegation led by Gao Ping, President of the Writers' Association of Gansu Province, paid a visit to Macedonia and attended the 35th Struga International Poem Festival and the 25th Annual Conference of International Translators organization. From 6 to 9 September, Standing Deputy President of the Chinese Red Cross Society Gu Yingqi visited Macedonia. From 9 to 14 October, a cultural and art delegation of China's Jiangsu Province visited Macedonia. From 11 to 15 November, an ethnic song and dance delegation of Jiangsu Province visited China.

From 22 May to 4 June, President of the Macedonia Writers' Association Svetlana Hristova Jocik visited China. From 11 to 21 June, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Qiushi magazine Xun Chunrong visited Macedonia. From 1 to 8 August, President of the Macedonian Red Cross Society Ilija Cvetanoski visited China. From 29 August to 2 September, Minister off Science of Macedonia Aslan Selmani led a delegation to pay a visit to China, during which Sino-Macedonia Science and Technology Exchange Program for the Year of 1997 to 1998 was signed. From 18 to 21 November, Mayor of Nanchang Liu Weiping paid a visit to Macedonia.

From 16-19 April 1998, Kang Ling, member and Secretary of the Secretariate of the All-China Women's Federation, visited Macedonia. From 30 June to 7 July, a Macedonian trade union delegation visited China. From 19 to 21 September, Secretary General of the Chinese Academy of Social Science Guo Yongcai visited Macedonia, during which the two sides signed the Memorandum on Academic Cooperation Between Chinese Academy of Social Science and Macedonia Academy of Sicence and Art.

From 31 May to 5 June 2000, at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, Mayor Risto Penov of Skopje, capital of Macedonia paid a visit to China. From 18 to 21 December, Mayor Liu Weiping of Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, headed a friendship delegation of Nanchang to visit Macedonia.

From 20 to 27 January 2002, at the invitation of the Communist Party of China(CPC), President of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia Branko Crvenkovski visited China. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Wei Jianxing, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Mnister of the International Liason Department of the CCCPC Dai Bingguo and Vice Minister Cai Wu, Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation He Xiaowei, and Vice Chairman of NPC Foreign Affairs Committee Li Shuzheng met him separately.

From November 15 to 25, 2002, Macedonian Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Macedonian Interior Organization Revolution Ljupco Georgievski visited China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Deputy Foreign Minister Liu Guchang, and President of the Institute Mei Zhaoren respectively met with the guest. Besides a visit to Beijing, the delegation also paid a visit to Xi'an and Shanghai.

From January 19 to 22, 2003, at the invitation of Macedonian Social Democratic Alliance, Deputy Head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee Cai Wu visit China. Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski, Speaker Nibola Popovski, Vice Prime Minister Radmila Sekjerinska, Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva, Chairman of the Interior Organization Revolution Ljupco Georgievski, and Risto Penov, Mayor of Skopji, Capital of the Republic of Macedonia, respectively met with the Chinese delegation.

From February 23 to 27, 2003, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) delegation paid a visit to Macedonia at the invitation of Macedonian Defense Ministry. Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, Minister of Defense Vlado Buckovski, General Chief of Staff Meladi Stamboliski, Deputy Minister of Defense Rizvan Sulejmani respectively met and held talks with the Chinese delegation.

From 6 to 12 September 2003, Macedonian writer association visited China.

From 29 November to 1 December 2003, Chinese people's association for friendship with foreign countries visited Macedonia.

From 16 to 22 February 2004, Defence minister Buckvski and chief of the general staff visited China.

From 14 to 22 June 2004, Macedonia association of journalists visited China.

In August 2004, Macedonia association for friendship with PRC visited China. The delegation of chinese people's liberation army visited Macedonia.

In August 2005,vice minister of health of PRC ChenXiaohong visited Macedonia. 

In September 2005,the mayor of Nanchang LiDouluo visited Skopje.

In October 2005,  XuShiqun, vice director of the standing committee of the mational people's congress of Sichuan province, visited Macedonia.

In December 2005, the President of VMRO-DPMNE party Gruevski visited China.

In April 2006, deputy minister of health Dimov visited China.

In July 2006, the secretary of Secretariat of All-China Women Union WangNaikun visited Macedonia.

From 10 to 14 May 2009, vice director of Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of ministry of Agriculture YuanHanping visited Macedonia.

From 9 to 15 November 2009, the chief of the general staff of Macedonia Stojanovski visited China.

From 12 to 18 November 2009, the delegation of All-China journalists association visited Macedonia.
